Research

For my PhD research, I study the decadal coral symbiotic resilience and recovery on Kiritimati, combining field surveys, coral image analysis, and molecular techniques.

As a coral technician in the Baum Lab, I contributed to research on post–El Niño coral recovery across human impact gradients on Kiritimati (Christmas Island), Kiribati. Our work aims to understand how local and global stressors shape reef resilience in a rapidly changing ocean.

As part of the Baum lab's scientific dive and research team, I travelled to the remote field site of Kiritimati (Christmas island), Kiribati, to survey the atoll’s coral reefs.

I co-led a group of Animal Management college students on a field expedition in Costa Rica. Organised by Flooglebinder and hosted by Osa Conservation, students took part in turtle night patrols, amphibian and avian monitoring, regenerative farming, eDNA sampling, and rewilding workshops.

I researched the effects of probiotics on the holobiont function of two Red Sea coral species under short-term heat stress, focusing on photophysiology and nitrogen pathways using a controlled laboratory experiment.

I explored restoration strategies for long-spined sea urchins on Saba, Dutch Caribbean, by rearing individuals in the lab and introducing them onto artificial reefs to assess their retention and ecological impact.

I volunteered as a research diver for a project supporting an MPA proposal by collecting photo-identification data to monitor reef manta ray populations in the Philippines.

I assisted a GIS Specialist as a volunteer during a community mapping project for disaster preparedness and risk management.

I contributed to a pilot study that worked on developing a method to understand shark behaviour and their responses to diver interactions, to assess sustainable limits for shark tourism in the Philippines.

I supported a coral reef restoration program by helping build, install, and maintain artificial reefs designed to enhance habitat complexity and support marine biodiversity.
